Plant Breeding Manager – Pharmaceutical Applications

Walker Cole International is supporting the pharmaceutical sector by seeking a Plant Breeding Manager to lead and develop its specialist breeding program. This role offers a unique opportunity to innovate at the intersection of plant science and pharmaceutical development, focusing on enhancing medicinal plant varieties.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement plant breeding strategies targeting traits such as alkaloid content, yield, and disease resistance.
* Develop and maintain plant clones, managing clone strategy, viability, and assessment.
* Coordinate field and greenhouse trials to evaluate breeding lines.
* Apply classical and molecular breeding techniques, including marker-assisted selection and tissue culture.
* Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical quality standards and regulatory documentation.
* Collaborate with R&D and regulatory teams.
* Communicate results and updates to stakeholders.
About You:
* MSc or PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, or related field.
* At least 5 years of practical plant breeding experience, including 2 in leadership roles.
* Strong understanding of medicinal plants and phytochemistry.
* Knowledge of GMP, GACP, and international pharmaceutical and agricultural regulations.
* Proficiency in data analysis, project management, and teamwork.
* Experience with medicinal crops.
* Background in pharmaceutical or biotech industries.
* Familiarity with EMA, FDA, or WHO guidelines for botanical ingredients.
