The role

PwC’s Strategy& Public Sector and Economics team is expanding its Defence Economics capability. We are looking for an experienced Manager with a background in applied economics to support the design and delivery of high-impact economic analyses and business cases across defence engagements. You will play a crucial role in supporting public sector clients with complex decision-making, often underpinned by HMT Green Book principles.
What your days will look like:
1. Lead cost-benefit analyses, economic appraisals, and risk-adjusted option modelling for defence and security programmes.
2. Lead analytical and quantitative modelling, including economic forecasting and statistical assessments.
3. Lead client workshops, stakeholder interviews, and qualitative assessments as part of economic impact analysis.
4. Draft concise, high-quality reports for senior internal and external audiences.
5. Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams on large-scale transformation programmes across Defence.
6. Manage junior team members to enable successful project delivery.
This role is for you if:
7. Knowledge of UK government and/or defence and security sector.
8. Experience of applying economic principles and quantitative methods to analyse UK government and/or defence-related issues, such as the economic impact of department spending, market dynamics, and the effectiveness of defence programmes.
9. Must possess an Economics Degree (or an international equivalent) or have equivalent work experience. This includes international candidates who qualify through experience in their home country.
10. Strong analytical skills for quantitative problem-solving, paired with high attention to detail.
11. Critical thinking skills to evaluate information, make informed decisions, and develop innovative solutions.
12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
13. Strong understanding of HMT Green Book and the business case lifecycle.
14. Fluent in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
