Job Purpose:
The Assistant Farm Manager will be working closely with the Farm Manager and be assisting in the day to day managing of a pig finishing unit, ensuring well-being and performance of livestock.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Farm Manager in ensuring the team,
- Are engaged and focused though two-way communications
- Understand and are working towards the department targets
- Build on their skills of through assessment, training and feedback.
* Take charge of other departments on the farm when required.
- On call rota for feed and alarm systems.
* Be responsible for the whole site in the Farm Managers absence and ensure that all stock associated with the farm are managed to the highest level
- Death rates are minimised and below target
- Animal welfare issues are minimised by proactive identification and treatment
- The highest level of Animal Welfare, Red Tractor and environmental standards are always adhered to
- Animal health strategies are agreed with the Company Vet before being implemented
* Ensure accurate and up to date records are maintained for all farm activities in the managers absence (cloud farming, movement licences, feed and raw material management, feed system management, stock, animal health traceability, staff clocking's, training etc.).
* Work with other business departments when required to do so.
* Comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
* Protect the Health and Safety of all though instituting and adherence to a safety culture
* Eliminate, minimise or isolate all Health, Safety or Environmental hazards
* Ensure adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures
Job Requirement:
Essential
Positive can-do attitude is essential along with the willingness to learn quickly within a changing environment
Experience of working with growing and finishing pigs.
Good level of English and maths
Basic IT Skills,
Previous experience with computerised liquid feeding and environmental control systems.
Caring, passionate, driven, enthusiastic, competent individual with excellent eye for detail and interpersonal skills, great communicator.
Excellent animal welfare and good hygiene practice is critical.
Implement strict cleaning and biosecurity protocols.
Experience in working within a fast pace environment
Flexibility and willingness to learn
Excellent time management skills
Desirable:
Previous experience in managing people (full training will be given)
Previous experience in dealing with the day to day running of a farm.
Driving licence
