We are currently looking for a Coverings Buyer to join us! As a senior member of the team, reporting to the Head of Buying, this role is responsible for delivering the buying and ranging strategy with a focus on category expansion and growth. You will develop and manage our product portfolio, carry out sourcing plans within prescribed categories, and ensure the right products are available at the right time. This role also drives cost-efficiency, supplier performance, and procurement innovation, while supporting cross-functional stakeholders to optimize supply chain outcomes.
CUSTOMER / STRATEGY / PLAN
1. Develop a category plan & strategy for 1-3 years, including market-leading products and suppliers.
2. Ensure a wide range of products and ranges are available for customers.
3. Identify range opportunities with the Head of Buying for Topps Group trading units.
4. Ensure a market-leading range that appeals to targeted customer groups.
5. Source 'exclusive' ranges bespoke for Topps Group customers.
6. Drive growth in category expansions and new business channels.
7. Negotiate complex contracts and commercial terms with suppliers.
8. Analyze market trends and supplier capabilities to inform purchasing decisions.
9. Review sourcing methods and suppliers for value and ethical sourcing.
10. Provide real-time data on competition, trends, and fashion.
11. Manage supplier relationships and performance.
PEOPLE / LEADERSHIP
1. Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Junior Buyers and provide wider leadership.
2. Coordinate between supply chain and distribution.
3. Build and maintain supplier relationships and promote brand.
4. Work cross-functionally to align buying with business needs.
FINANCIAL / COMMERCIALS
1. Maximize buying opportunities to improve margins and stock turn.
2. Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to budget control.
3. Lead the team to exceed KPIs and conduct reviews for improvement.
4. Manage product spend, rebates, and gross margin targets.
5. Manage projects within agreed timelines and investments.
6. Review pricing structure and create range architecture.
7. Monitor competitor activity for commercial awareness.
RISK / PROCESS
1. Promote best practices in risk and process management for range sign-offs and product refreshes.
2. Conduct regular reviews of price point structures.
3. Manage risks related to currency and regional factors.
4. Implement solid exit plans for discontinued stock.
5. Reduce stock capacity where appropriate.
