The Domestic Assistant is responsible for keeping wards, offices, and public areas clean to a high standard as part of the domestic service team within the hospital setting.
Responsibilities
* Maintain a high standard of cleaning in clinical and non-clinical areas in line with infection prevention.
* Clean patients’ rooms/wards, toilets, bathrooms, and communal areas (lounges, dining areas, corridors).
* Operate cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, mops, electric floor cleaners) and use cleaning products safely and effectively.
* Carry out deep-cleaning operations in designated areas.
* Follow safety procedures, including fire procedures and escape routes, and undertake relevant workplace training.
* Carry out cleaning duties according to set procedures and standards and adhere to infection control policies.
* Work as part of a team, prioritising and organising daily duties with a professional approach.
Working hours
There is typically a combination of part-time roles available, with a set shift pattern. Example: Monday – Friday, 16:30 – 20:00 (17.5 hours).
Entry requirements and training
* There is no strict entry requirement to become a Domestic Assistant; however you may be required to complete NVQ Level 1 in cleaning.
* When you start, you will attend an induction and receive all relevant training.
Skills and abilities
* Good communication skills and a caring, sensitive nature.
* A degree of physical fitness is required as you may be on your feet for long periods; knowledge of lifting and manual handling techniques is beneficial for performing duties safely.
