Vehicle Distribution Centre (VDC) Manager – Southampton

A highly respected automotive logistics business is seeking a dynamic and experienced VDC Manager to lead operations at a large-scale Vehicle Preparation & Distribution Centre in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation known for service excellence and operational efficiency.
The Role
As VDC Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day performance and productivity of all technical and terminal operations at the site. You will lead a sizable team, manage key customer relationships, and ensure service delivery against contractual KPIs and SLAs.
You will also play a pivotal role in developing people, improving processes, and driving a performance culture across the site. This is a hands-on operational leadership role with significant exposure to senior stakeholders, logistics providers, and OEM representatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, manage, and motivate a team of automotive technical and logistics staff.
* Ensure the site is resourced and skilled to meet both internal and customer expectations.
* Maintain high standards of health & safety, welfare, and site compliance.
* Monitor operational KPIs and ensure targets are consistently met or exceeded.
* Deliver accurate, timely reporting in line with group frameworks.
* Drive performance management and team development.
* Oversee strategic projects and support change management initiatives.
* Maintain strong working relationships with external partners and customers.
* Ensure adherence to regulatory, contractual, and operational standards.
About You
* 2+ years in operations management, ideally in an automotive, logistics, or technical environment.
* 3+ years' experience in leading and developing teams.
* Strong understanding of performance and production management.
* Excellent knowledge of health & safety best practices.
* Proven ability to manage change and deliver strategic improvements.
* Comfortable using data and reporting tools — strong Excel and general IT skills essential.
* Experience working in high-volume, fast-paced operational settings.
* Familiarity with lean tools, project management, and continuous improvement methods.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Quality- and customer-service-driven mindset.
