The opportunity We are seeking a hands-on IT Support Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will serve as the first line of support for our employees, ensuring their day-to-day technology works seamlessly. Crucially, this role offers a clear pathway to grow into IT Operations within a tech-bio environment. You will gain hands-on experience in our Data Centre (supporting HPC clusters) and within our wet labs (integrating sequencing and imaging instruments). If you are a tinkerer who enjoys networking, hardware, and learning how to support scientific discovery, this role is for you. Day to day, you will Serve as the primary point of contact for hardware and software issues across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments. Configure laptops, accounts, and access rights for new hires, ensuring a smooth "Day 1" experience. Manage user accounts and permissions across platforms such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, and Atlassian (Jira/Confluence). Maintain an up-to-date inventory of hardware, peripherals, and software licences. Troubleshoot office Wi-Fi, LAN, and VPN connectivity issues. Assist with patching and maintaining network switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. Manage cabling within the office and server rooms to ensure organisation, reliability, and functionality. Partner with scientists to network specialised equipment (e.g., DNA sequencers, microscopes, and liquid handlers). Assist with “racking and stacking” servers, replacing drives, and managing physical hardware within our Data Centre. Learn basic Linux administration to help troubleshoot compute nodes and storage servers. Professionally, will have 1–3 years of experience in an IT Support or Help Desk role. Strong proficiency in troubleshooting Windows and macOS systems, and comfort using basic command-line tools. An understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, and physical connectivity). Hands-on hardware aptitude (e.g., replacing RAM, managing cables, or racking servers). Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. Personally, you Are comfortable working in a matrixed environment, balancing multiple stakeholders and contributing effectively across teams.
