Overview
Emergency Medicine in East Kent Hospitals is at an exciting period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment to rebuild the Emergency Department at our William Harvey Hospital. Our Emergency Departments provide innovative and fast paced integrated emergency care to a wide range of patients from East Kent. It is our inspiration to develop into an academic and research unit in emergency medicine for Kent. Each of our Emergency Departments offer a full 24-hour emergency service. The Emergency Departments are supported by co-located Urgent Treatment Centres, a 24-hour UTC at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital with a further 7 community UTCs in the region. In total approximately 220,000 patients are seen annually across the Emergency Departments.
Responsibilities
* Provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the Emergency Department.
* Be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring that the Emergency Access Standards are adhered to, delivering safe, high quality care.
* Maintain patient safety, dignity and care as the highest priority and be at the centre of all actions during duty in the department.
* Provide highly visible and focused clinical leadership on duty, working with the nurse in charge of the shift and the SpR/specialty doctor lead to ensure effective and timely communication within the clinical team and maintain optimal patient flow.
* Provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervise and train junior and specialty doctors in emergency medicine and emergency nurse practitioners.
* Be proactive in the care group’s clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, adhering to the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust.
* Liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address issues arising that affect the services.
