Vacancy at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – inpatient physiotherapist – 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with some weekend working at the North West Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
" +
Clinical Leadership
" +
" +
* Provide clinical and developmental leadership to a team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and therapy assistants.
" +
* Lead projects to enhance and develop the service.
" +
* Provide day-to-day management of designated staff.
" +
* Represent the Trust locally and regionally regarding physiotherapy services.
" +
* Work closely with orthopaedic consultants, matrons, ward managers and nursing staff.
" +
" +
Management of Patients
" +
" +
* Deliver management and rehabilitation for patients who have undergone routine and complex elective orthopaedic procedures.
" +
* See trauma patients at RAEI as service need requires.
" +
* Plan and organise patient care, balancing professional demands to optimise time management.
" +
* Interpret and analyse clinical facts to formulate accurate diagnoses, prognoses and individualised management plans.
" +
* Produce detailed transfer information for out-of-trust patients.
" +
" +
Training and Development
" +
" +
* Oversee training, supervision and professional development of staff, students and trainees.
" +
* Deliver spontaneous and planned teaching to patients, carers and other professionals.
" +
* Provide specialist advice and training to colleagues within other clinical areas.
" +
" +
Planning and Organisational Duties
" +
" +
* Be responsible for a designated area of work as agreed with the Therapy Lead/Clinical Lead.
" +
* Decide priorities for own work area ensuring alignment with service goals.
" +
* Ensure effective selection and use of all treatment resources and maintain equipment.
" +
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, complying with legal and departmental requirements.
" +
* Collect data and statistics for the therapy department and participate in reviews and updates.
" +
* Recruit and select lower grade staff and undertake staff appraisal and personal development plans.
" +
* Participate in Evidence-Based Practice projects, audits and outcome measures to recommend change.
" +
" +
Communications and Key Working Relationships
" +
" +
* Work independently within broad clinical and professional guidelines, with peer supervision.
" +
* Communicate complex clinical information effectively and work collaboratively with MDT colleagues.

* Use communication tools to gain informed consent, assess capacity and work within a legal framework.

* Provide day-to-day supervision, management and development for designated staff.

* Work with Team Leaders to ensure smooth running of the overall service.

* Accept responsibility for tasks delegated to less senior or unqualified staff.

* Ensure staff implement policy and service development changes.

* Fulfil a proactive role towards risk management in all actions, including risk assessment, reporting incidents, near misses and hazardous situations.

Teaching
" +

* Provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals.

* Educate, supervise and performance-manage junior staff, trainee assistants, physiotherapy assistants and students, with formal appraisal documentation.

Qualifications and Attributes

* Experience of delivering training and supervision of staff/students is essential.
