Tyne Coast College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Work Based Tutor – Functional Skills to join our dynamic team. About the Role As a Work Based Tutor, you will deliver high-quality teaching and assessment in Functional Skills English and Maths (Levels 1 and 2) to apprentices and work-based learners across college campuses and employer premises. You will play a key role in planning individual learning programmes, preparing engaging resources, and supporting learners to achieve and progress. You’ll also contribute to quality assurance, liaise with employers and stakeholders, and support the wider apprenticeship team in delivering outstanding provision. Key Responsibilities Deliver Functional Skills English and Maths to groups and individuals. Prepare structured lesson plans and learning materials. Use electronic platforms to assess and track learner progress. Engage with employers to support learner development. Maintain accurate records and contribute to programme reviews. Participate in standardisation meetings and staff development. What We’re Looking For Essential: Teaching qualification (CertEd or equivalent). GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths. Assessors Award (TAQA, A1 or equivalent). Experience teaching Functional Skills in FE or work-based settings. Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to safeguarding and equality, diversity, and inclusion. Desirable: Internal Quality Assurance qualification (V1 or equivalent). Subject specialist qualification in English or Maths (Level 5). Experience using digital platforms to enhance learning.
