Background


Led by the Head of Student Health & Wellbeing, the Department comprises four services:

* Student Disability & Neurodiversity Service

* Student Mental Health Service

* Student Counselling Service
* Student Health and Wellbeing Engagement Service

Together, we offer specialist advice and support to students during their time at the university. We also provide consultation and guidance to academic staff and the wider university community regarding, disability, neurodiversity, mental health and wellbeing. Mental Health Advisers often work closely with Academic staff and School Welfare Officers during times of increased crisis for students or advising on best practice pertaining to student's mental health.


Responsibilities


The Mental Health Adviser will be responsible for advising and supporting both prospective and current students with long-term mental health conditions, particularly those with moderate to severe difficulties and complex needs. This includes identifying appropriate adjustments and support packages, managing a substantial caseload, and working to reduce barriers to learning and participation in university.

A key component of the role is conducting risk assessments and managing ongoing risk for students with complex mental health needs. The ability to assess and respond to risk is essential.


Person Specification


You will have substantial and demonstrable experience of managing a large caseload, providing individual and group support to those with moderate to severe and enduring mental health conditions and complex social circumstances.

Experience of identifying, assessing, and managing risk, students in crisis and safeguarding concerns is required. You will be comfortable managing difficult conversations and with suicide prevention liaising effectively with external agencies and crisis management teams.
