We are seeking a Transport Distribution Coordinator to assist our client based in Hull, working in the industrial gases sector. This is a 3-month contract role, with the possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate, subject to business needs and performance.
The role operates on a 'four-on/four-off' shift rotation, with 11-hour shifts plus a 60-minute unpaid rest break, alternating between day (6am-6pm) and night shifts. The position offers a 22% shift allowance, making the actual pay rate £16.62 per hour (base rate £13.62), plus holiday pay.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience in Distribution with knowledge of Transport Legislation
* Experience supervising a team
* Experience building relationships with Industrial Relations Representatives
* Transport Manager Certificate (preferred but not essential)
* Driver Licence / ADR / Driver CPC (preferred but not essential)
* Fluency in English
* Proficiency in MS Office
Reporting to the Local Distribution Manager in Hull, the Team Lead will:
* Perform shift supervisor duties for a pool of 55 HGV drivers across the UK and EU
* Assist in daily operational management of drivers at the Hull Liquid Bulk Terminal
* Provide EH&S, Transport, Operational, and Quality support to the distribution team
* Coordinate and ensure efficient Driver Resource allocation to meet customer and operational needs
* Support HR activities such as note-taking in meetings
* Ensure Transport operations comply with legislative and company standards
* Coordinate daily distribution activities and drive cost and compliance improvements using key metrics
* Provide out-of-hours support for other terminals, managing driver issues, reporting absences, and supporting scheduling and fleet teams
Key interfaces include Operations Administration, EH&S, Scheduling, Drivers, Regional Managers, Driver Trainers, and IR Representatives. Success depends on strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and operational skills.
The main responsibilities include:
* Ensuring safety standards and processes are maintained
* Maintaining O Licence compliance, including truck maintenance and tachograph records
* Supervising driver activities and managing holiday planning
* Supporting disciplinary processes and note-taking
* Planning and coordinating driver training (CPC, ADR, refresher courses)
* Coaching drivers for productivity and efficiency
* Participating in vehicle accident responses
* Providing feedback on out-of-hours activities
* Reporting activity summaries to management
* Maintaining good industrial relations and managing driver reports, complaints, and infringements
* Supporting drivers via a helpline when local supervision is absent
