A Senior or Principal Electrical Design Engineer leads the design and development of electrical systems, taking ownership of complex projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions. They also mentor junior engineers and ensure projects meet safety and compliance standards.
Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer
Senior Electrical Engineer (Instrumentation):
RA’s client is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Electrical Engineer to join their R&D Team and take a leading role in growing the EE capability within their company. The ideal candidate will own all aspects of electrical design within our client’s existing products and new product development programs. This role is expected to exercise significant autonomy and initiative while keeping stakeholders informed of progress. The Senior Electrical Engineer will also interface with clients and troubleshoot product electrical problems. This role reports directly to the CTO.
Responsibilities:
1. Conceive of and specify system level control architecture for new products.
2. Create schematic designs for circuit boards used in optical instrumentation products, including motion control, laser diode control, UART and CANbus communications, displays, microcontrollers, and interfacing to input devices.
3. Maintain configuration control of all circuit boards.
4. Lay out circuit boards and produce fabrication packages.
5. Test and troubleshoot boards.
6. Specify cable harness designs and collaborate with mechanical designers to create drawings.
7. Provide guidance to Production on best practices for electronics integration.
8. Produce documentation such as design records and work instructions.
9. Assist in shepherding products through the CE certification process.

Qualifications & Skills:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
2. At least 5 years’ experience with schematic design and board layouts.
3. Strong hands-on skills (soldering, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
4. Ability to write firmware and/or PC applications for testing boards is a plus.
5. Experience with FPGAs is a plus.
6. Good understanding of mitigation of susceptibility and emissions is a plus.
7. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, eager to learn.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
10. Ability to form good working relationships and lead clients to good decisions.
11. Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking in a dynamic environment.
12. Strong organizational capabilities.
