Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic, forward-thinking and experienced Building Standards Surveyor looking for an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic Building Standards Team?
As part of our team, you will have a key role helping deliver and develop the Building Standards service in West Dunbartonshire.
What You'll Do
The post covers all aspects of Building Standards including verification of applications, sustainable construction, undertaking site inspections, ensuring the health, safety and welfare of people in and around buildings, providing consultations to licensing and taking enforcement action where necessary.
You will primarily deal with a caseload of Building Warrant and related consents, with particular responsibility for complex applications in relation to both domestic and non-domestic applications. You will be able to travel across West Dunbartonshire for site inspections.
You will work closely with the Team Leader for Building Standards, using your knowledge and experience to help develop policies, procedures and junior members of staff. Opportunities for personal development will arise by providing cover in their absence, to ensure the smooth running of the section.
What We're Looking For

As part of a small team, it is essential that you share our positive, "can-do" ethos and a willingness to be helpful to both colleagues and customers.
What You'll Need
You should hold a relevant Building Standards or related qualification: e.g. BSc, or have evidence of significant professional competence and expertise gained through considerable experience working as a Building Standards Surveyor.
You will have recent experience of working in Building Standards and an awareness of the Scottish Government's current work aimed at improving the performance, expertise, resilience and sustainability of the Scottish building standards framework and services across Scotland.
