Criminal Justice Social Work is looking to recruit on a full-time and permanent basis, a Community Payback Officer to cover mid Dumfries and Galloway, including Stranraer, and the Stewartry, to assist in the effective delivery of unpaid work and other activities under the Community Payback Scheme.
The Community Payback Scheme delivers unpaid work within the community with people sentenced by the courts to carry out unpaid work and other activities as a requirement of a Community Payback Order.
Responsibilities
* Provide line management and supervision to a small group of Unpaid Work Supervisors.
* Identify and assess potential projects, prepare project plans, and manage projects being undertaken.
* Manage resources utilised within the scheme including buildings, equipment and vehicles.
* Demonstrate flexibility to assist with direct supervision of service users subject to Unpaid Work or potentially weekend working when required.
Qualifications
* Educated to SCQF level 6 (SVQ 3, Higher or equivalent).
* Understanding of health and safety as it applies to all aspects of the delivery of the scheme.
* Experience of working in a supervisory capacity is essential; able to evidence effective motivational and performance management techniques.
* Previous experience of working with individuals within the Justice System is advantageous.
* Good understanding of the needs of Justice Social Work service users and ability to work in a non-judgemental manner using pro-social modelling skills is expected.
* An understanding of the demands of working within a Social Work service will be beneficial.
Additional information
* The post will work alongside one other Community Payback Officer who covers the east of the region. This position will be line managed by the Unpaid Work Senior Social Worker in the West.
* This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
* Applicants who have resided outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, will require a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries of residence, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check.
* A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. If a disability precludes holding a driving licence, alternative transport arrangements will be considered.
