Neonatal Ward Manager
We are looking for an exceptional Neonatal Ward Manager to lead our dedicated neonatal team, combining clinical excellence, compassionate leadership, and a passion for improving outcomes for babies and their families.
This is an opportunity to shape the future of neonatal care, whilst managing and inspiring a dedicated multi‑disciplinary team.
You will provide strategic and operational leadership to our Level 2 Local Neonatal Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality family‑centred care for premature and critically ill newborns through quality improvements and initiatives.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a qualified neonatal nurse with experience at band 6 or above, possessing specialist clinical knowledge, communication and leadership skills. The post holder will manage all aspects of clinical standards and professional practice within the unit, coordinate staff budget resources and the environment, and help shape the future of the service in support of the Matron, Deputy Head of Nursing and Head of Nursing.
The role requires maintaining clinical credibility via shifts within the clinical rota, ensuring skills are kept current and offering visibility to the wider team.
Job responsibilities
Ensures compassionate, safe and high‑quality care delivery for all patients in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards. Provides a caring environment conducive to wellbeing, and manages workforce and resource allocation to maintain safe staffing levels. Acts as a visible and accessible leader, supporting staff development, promoting patient‑focused care, and contributing to the Trust’s Quality Improvement Plan. Supports further development of the Transitional Care Model and promotes a sustainable relationship between maternity and neonatal services.

* NMC registered (RGN / RSCN / RN Child / RM)
* Masters level qualifications or working towards
* Leadership qualification or working towards
