Overview
Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse - Emergency Department role at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust. This is a Band 6 position in the Emergency Department within the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, contributing to high-quality emergency care in a state-of-the-art facility.
As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will support the Senior Nursing team in delivering safe, effective, and patient-focused care. You will provide day-to-day clinical leadership, ensure high standards of nursing practice, support junior staff, and help coordinate the smooth running of the department.
Responsibilities
* Supervise care delivery, promote evidence-based practice, and contribute to service improvements.
* Lead by example, communicate effectively, and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate care to ensure high standards and patient safety.
* Supervise junior staff, coordinate care delivery, and support effective patient flow.
* Act as a clinical expert, manage a defined patient caseload, and lead and support the nursing team on shift.
* In the absence of senior staff, take charge of the department, manage resources, and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
* Support performance management, incident reporting, and maintenance of clinical standards.
* Promote a positive learning culture; mentor and precept staff and students; support education, training, and professional development across the team.
* Participate in audits, governance, and quality improvement projects to drive evidence-based practice and enhance patient experience in the Emergency Department.
Qualifications
* Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse with a solid foundation in emergency nursing.
* Ability to provide leadership, communicate effectively, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Commitment to delivering excellent patient care and developing leadership skills within a supportive team.
