This is an exciting time to bejoining the department of Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic medicine at SouthTyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation trust. In conjunction with theexisting consultants, you will work towards enhancing our existing services andexpanding to develop new dedicated services, all striving towards providingsafer high-quality care.
The Metabolic department in the trustis split across two sites at Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH) and South Tyneside(ST); it is a dynamic and forward-thinking team. It is dedicated to providing ahigh-quality patient experience, through innovation, education, clinicaleffectiveness and efficiency. The department believes strongly in a patientcentred team working philosophy.
We are looking for highly motivated,innovative and skilled individuals who are passionate about delivering highquality care within Endocrinology and Diabetes.
Applicants would be expected to workalongside the existing consultant team in supporting the unit as a whole.Applicants would contribute to the specialty in-patient cover, the out of hoursrota and would contribute to the general medical ward and on-call duties.

Main duties of the job
The department currently provides consultant lead and delivered specialist clinics in Diabetes, these include: Ante Natal, Pre-Conceptual, Ambulatory Rapid/Care, Young Persons & Transitional, Dedicated Type 1 service, Diabetes Technology, Complex Type 2 and Foot MDT clinics, In-patient Diabetes care. These are supported by highly experienced DSNs, Dietitians, Clinical Psychologists and Specialist Podiatrist. The Endocrine service encompasses dedicated group and collaborative clinics in: Pituitary, Adrenal, Parathyroid, & Thyroid, Bone, Reproductive Endocrinology, Fertility services and Thyroid Eye. A sub-regional dedicated Lipid service has been established for many years at Sunderland.

The Directorateof General Internal Medicine at South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS FoundationTrust sits within the Division of Medicine and consists of two disciplines (i)Diabetes, Endocrine & Metabolic Medicine and (ii) Gastroenterology across thetwo sites, (Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH) and South Tyneside General Hospital(ST)). Each site has dedicated generalmedical wards specialising inDiabetes & Endocrine and Gastroenterology as well as outpatient, day caseand diagnostic facilities.

* Competent in management of routine and emergency general medical patients.

Skills & Knowledge
* Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team.

* Evidence of teaching and training skills for junior doctors.

* Knowledge of current national agendas affecting the NHS and the implications involved.
Experience
* Relevant experience in any declared specialist interest pertinent to the post.

Qualifications
* MB ChB or equivalent.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Full registration with GMC.
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of expected date of CCT in Diabetes, Endocrinology and general medicine.
* Postgraduate Thesis.
* HRUK exam or equivalent.
