Role Overview
As an MI & Operational Support Manager, you will ensure the strategic use of data to support decision-making across Operations. Your role combines delivering insightful management information (MI) with operational oversight of key processes and systems. You will use your expertise in data, systems, and business requirements to produce MI, support performance, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Responsibilities
* Lead development and delivery of MI solutions across multiple functions, especially high-impact areas.
* Shape and deliver operational reporting aligned with business goals and statutory obligations.
* Utilise Excel (including VBA), Power BI, and SQL for data extraction, transformation, and visualization.
* Ensure timely, accurate MI reports, dashboards, and insight packs for stakeholders.
* Translate complex data into clear narratives and actionable insights for diverse audiences.
* Manage operational processes and support tools, driving efficiencies through automation.
* Contribute to new reporting solutions and continuous MI capability improvement.
* Collaborate with policy, digital, and operational teams to ensure data supports strategic aims.
* Document and refine MI processes to maintain clarity, accuracy, and continuity.
* Support strategic reviews, policy development, business cases, and audits with MI and system insights.
* Prioritize demands, escalate issues to mitigate risks, and ensure service delivery.
* Deputise for the Senior MI Manager, providing leadership and continuity.
Additional Expectations
Coordinate with stakeholders to define requirements, optimise data access, design Power BI dashboards, lead system change requests, and ensure data quality and transparency. Support live operations, incident management, and change activities related to MI systems. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential due to the broad stakeholder landscape.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
* Working knowledge of the War Pension Scheme (WPS) and the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VBA), Power BI, and SQL.
* Experience delivering accurate MI to stakeholders.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience in government/public sector environments.
* Knowledge of MI governance, data warehouses, scripting languages, GDPR, and data protection.
* Experience with system change management and mentoring.
