Are you a talented Senior Structural Engineer looking to showcase your skills within a high‑performing team, where your contribution is acknowledged and your achievements celebrated? We’re looking for a Principal Bridges & Structures Engineer to join our Croydon office. The role involves leading bridge and structural design across multiple projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering high‑quality technical reports and drawings.
Responsibilities
* Sound knowledge of engineering processes for investigations, assessment, refurbishment, and design of transport structures including bridges.
* Comprehensive understanding of constraints that affect existing and proposed structural assets.
* Familiarity with structural mechanics and industry‑standard analysis software; ensure all calculations are accurate and reliable.
* Practical experience executing on‑site works safely and productively, managing specialist subcontractors and access requirements.
* Lead a small to medium‑sized team to deliver high‑quality reports and drawings, prioritise budget and schedule, and participate in interdisciplinary reviews.
* Work under the supervision of director‑level team members, managing work packages, client meetings, and decision making.
* Provide technical leadership for delivery projects, line‑manage and develop a delivery‑focused team of engineers and technicians.
* Serve as Supervising Civil Engineer for trainees and support graduates toward chartership.
* Secure and deliver work to new and existing clients.
* Project‑manage schemes including client reporting, programming, resource planning, and commercial management.
Qualifications
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; MSc level or equivalent preferred.
* Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers.
* Minimum of 2 days per week working from the Croydon office.
* Proven assessment/design and project management experience.
* Strong technical skills in bridge engineering with a focus on quality and a "right first time" approach.
* Working knowledge of structural Eurocodes, National Highways (DMRB & MCHW) and Network Rail standards.
* Experience with structural analysis software such as Lusas, MIDAS, Sofistik or SBD.
* Experience producing calculations, drawings, risk assessments, specifications and reporting, including interdisciplinary review on multi‑discipline projects.
