The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
We are seeking to appoint a Technical Services Assistant to provide essential support to the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring the effective operation of the Faculty’s research laboratories and facilities by supporting core technical services, including wash-up, autoclave, waste management, laundry operations and internal stock control.
The role will also involve assisting with the preparation of basic laboratory reagents (e.g. PBS, LB agar, agar plates, sterile water), maintaining consumable stock levels, and ensuring that laboratory support areas remain safe, compliant, and well organised. This position underpins the smooth running of research and teaching laboratories across the Faculty and contributes directly to the success of LSHTM’s scientific mission.
The successful applicant will provide on-site support to a range of researchers and will be proactive and dedicated to supporting our team. Supporting colleagues and contributing to the effective operation of the team is essential. Previous experience of working in technical services facilities and experience of managing internal stocks and consumables systems is desirable. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time and offered on a without duration basis. The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 2 in the range £26,987 - £29,026 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
