Job Description
About the Role
We're looking for a Technical Business Analyst to sit at the heart of our product development process — the person who connects what our customers need with what our development team builds.
In this role you'll work closely with customers on escalated issues and new feature requests, getting to the root of what they need and why. Sometimes that means facilitating a conversation to tease out requirements; other times it means rolling up your sleeves and digging into the codebase to understand what's going wrong. You won't be expected to deliver complex production code, but you'll need to be comfortable understanding the code for a modern Web / application (at a basic level), reading through logic, and investigating issues with enough depth to either resolve them yourself or clearly brief the development team.
You'll own the journey of a requirement from initial customer conversation through to delivery — writing clear user stories, shaping the backlog, and then testing the finished work to make sure it genuinely solves the problem. You'll be the person who ensures that what gets built is what was actually needed.
This role suits someone who enjoys variety: one day you might be on a call with a customer understanding a new workflow they need, the next you might be tracing through code to diagnose a tricky bug, and the day after you might be writing test cases and validating a release. If you like working across the full spectrum from people to technology, and take satisfaction in making sure nothing gets lost in translation, this could be a great fit.
Key Requirements
Customer Engagement & Requirements Gathering
* Work alongside the support team to engage directly with customers on escalated or complex issues that require deeper technical or business understanding
* Lead conversations with customers to explore and capture new feature requirements, understanding the underlying business need and translating that into clear, actionable specifications for the development team
* Communicate technical outcomes, trade-offs, and timelines to customers in clear, non-technical language when needed
Technical Investigation & Analysis
* For escalated issues, dive into the codebase (Angular front-end, back-end) to trace root causes and either resolve directly or provide developers with a clear, informed diagnosis
* Translate customer-reported issues into well-documented, actionable bug reports or user stories with sufficient technical context for the development team to pick up efficiently
* Understand the application's data model, APIs, and key architectural patterns well enough to assess the likely scope and impact of reported issues or requested changes
Testing & Quality Assurance
* Take ownership of testing new features and changes before release, verifying they meet the documented requirements and acceptance criteria
* Perform regression testing to ensure new changes haven't introduced unintended side effects
* Validate bug fixes against the original reported issue, confirming resolution from the customer's perspective
* Identify edge cases and potential issues early by leveraging knowledge of customer workflows and the underlying codebase
Requirements & Backlog Management
* Translate business needs into clear user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria
* Prioritise and refine the backlog based on customer feedback, business value, and technical feasibility
* Participate in sprint planning and refinement, representing the customer and business perspective and helping the team assess scope
* Ensure delivered features genuinely address the original customer need through close involvement from requirement through to release
Technical Aptitude
* Comfortable navigating and reading a modern web application codebase — not expected to deliver complex production features, but able to trace logic, identify straightforward issues, and write simple fixes or scripts
* Familiarity with agile project management tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar)
* Able to write simple scripts, queries, or data checks to support investigation and analysis
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication — able to adapt style for both technical and non-technical audiences
* Patient and empathetic when working with customers on complex or frustrating issues
* Collaborative and proactive — works closely with support, development, and customers to ensure nothing falls through the cracks
