 
        
        Job Summary
The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed‑term Energy Advisor (up to 2 years), who will support our regulation of combustion plants, waste incineration, refineries and other energy sectors. The role requires experience in energy sector regulation and technical knowledge of emissions control.
Key Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support, advice, guidance and training to stakeholders.
 * Develop sector strategy and produce regulatory tools to deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and operational teams.
 * Assume an incident role, being available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support.
 * Possibly travel to meet stakeholders and support fieldwork.
Qualifications & Experience
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of the energy sector, including emissions control for combustion plants.
 * Experience leading or supporting regulatory activities within or across energy processes.
 * Strong relationship‑building skills with regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and cultures.
 * Experience in planning, commissioning or managing research projects.
 * Excellent communication and training ability.
Contract & Working Conditions
 * Fixed‑term contract up to 2 years.
 * Role is based in Birmingham, subject to occasional travel.
 * Flexible working arrangements are available.
