Shift Manager
Cambridgeshire
Run the Site. Shape the Strategy. Influence the Business.
You’ve led production teams, driven performance improvements, and built a strong shop floor culture now it’s time to step into a role that offers more. Here is a challenge that will offer you broader scope and real impact.
We are working exclusively with a privately owned, people-focused fresh produce business in the search for two Shift Managers to take full accountability for shift performance and leadership across their high-volume wash and pack operation in Cambridgeshire.
As Shift Manager, you will work closely with the General Manager but take full ownership of your shift, leading the team of circa 65 (which increases at peak times) on day-to-day people performance, operational compliance, and process improvement.
You’ll be given the freedom to drive engagement and help shape a more proactive, performance-focused shop floor culture. Your first challenge being to lead a “back to basics” reset, restoring consistency and performance discipline after a period of change.
This isn’t a corporate machine, it’s a people-first business where employees at all levels are empowered to give strategic input. You’ll also be able to lead, make decisions and create impact without layers of red tape.
The business is stable, profitable and ambitious, with multiple tenders in play and potential UK-wide expansion meaning genuine opportunities for you, ranging from working up the ladder at site to the possibility of multi-site responsibility in the future!
The Operation at a Glance
This private, family owned and growing food manufacturer operates a complex, 24/7 operation in their fresh produce facility processing over 80,000 tonnes of produce annually. With 2 wash lines and 12 packing lines for both organic and conventional SKUs.
The site turns over £65m annually and supplies major UK retailers with the finest quality produce. The business has a people-focused ethos and an appetite for innovation and growth.
With the future expansion on the horizon, this is a business offering stability with clear ambition.
What You’ll Bring
To succeed, you’ll have proven team leadership experience at a Shift Manager level or equivalent. A background in manufacturing is essential, with experience in the food or fresh produce sector is desirable, though not required.
You’ll also bring strong numeracy skills and feel confident working with and interpreting data, KPIs, OEE, and other performance metrics and trends. Using this insight, you’ll be able to implement and embed continuous improvement initiatives with confidence.
Most importantly, you’ll bring a proactive, people-focused leadership style with the ability to drive change and foster high levels of engagement.
