GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and skilled PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a nurturing special school in Sheffield. This role offers an opportunity to support pupils with complex learning, physical, and sensory needs, helping them achieve personal development, communication skills, and independence in a safe and stimulating environment.
Role Overview:
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant (TA), you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide individualised care and learning support. You’ll assist pupils with their educational, physical, and emotional needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will:
* Provide personalised 1:1 or small group support for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
* Assist with personal care routines, mobility, and communication as required.
* Use specialist equipment and strategies to support learning and engagement.
* Encourage sensory exploration, independence, and social interaction.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
* Maintain a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment.
* Monitor and record pupils’ progress, development, and wellbeing.
Requirements for PMLD Teaching Assistant:
* Previous experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs (preferred).
* A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils’ individual needs.
* Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to assist with personal care and physical support.
* An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
* A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
