An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our clinical Coding Team.
The post holder will have major responsibilities for delivering a comprehensive training programme to the Trust’s Clinical Coding Department and external stakeholders, actively engaging clinicians and managers through specialty-based workshops when required. The role also involves planning, developing and implementing the clinical coding audit program to enhance coding accuracy and provide meaningful data for clinical and managerial decisions.

Responsibilities
* Develop, plan and deliver training courses, workshops and ad hoc sessions to the clinical coding department and external stakeholders; lead an in‑house training programme.
* Provide induction training for all new clinical coding staff and serve as mentor and first point of contact for novice coders during their first year.
* Audit the completeness, timeliness and accuracy of clinical coding across the division/Trust, utilising IT and national coding conventions (ICD‑10, OPCS‑4).
* Produce audit reports, present findings to senior leadership, and recommend improvements to coding quality and accuracy.
* Monitor coder performance, offer support, guidance and individual training needs.
* Ensure all training sessions adhere to national coding standards and keep coders updated on relevant coding manuals.
* Organise and train staff in the use of ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4 classifications.
* Liaise with clinicians, managers and senior staff to maintain data quality standards and provide expert points of reference for coding rules.
* Support and mentor trainee clinical coders and review their work before formal entry into the system.
* Train staff on medical terminology and information extraction from patient records.
* Review and update training programmes to support progression towards the National Clinical Coding Qualification.
* Deliver national training services to other hospitals in the region as required.
* Administer national clinical coding courses and specialty workshop materials, including room booking and CCS Registered Trainer status maintenance.
* Attend annual CCS Approved Trainer Forums, coding conferences and multi‑disciplinary meetings.
* Participate in the development and implementation of policies, budgets and financial initiatives related to training and audit services.
* Ensure adherence to National Standards, authorise rotas and manage dual roles of trainer and auditor.
* Take part in raising awareness of the value of clinical coding, providing audit feedback and supporting quality assurance across the Trust.
* Act as deputy for the Departmental Clinical Coding Manager in their absence.
* Address any coding queries, escalations and issues requiring resolution.
* Other duties as agreed with the line manager.
