Business Development Director – Centrica Power
The Business Development Director will be accountable for originating, shaping and progressing new investment opportunities across Centrica Power. This senior management role drives growth through the expansion of existing assets, the development of new opportunities, partnerships, and the translation of the power strategy into a high‑quality executable investment pipeline.
Key accountabilities
* Strategic Growth & Origination
Lead the origination of new investment opportunities across power generation, storage and emerging technologies in line with the Centrica Power strategy. Identify, evaluate and prioritise growth opportunities across organic development, acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships. Translate long‑term strategic objectives into a robust, investable opportunity pipeline.
* Investment & Commercial Leadership
Own early stage development structuring and value creation plans. Support business cases, investment papers and approvals for Investment Committee and Board consideration. Ensure all opportunities meet Centrica’s risk, return and governance requirements, with clear articulation of downside risk and value drivers.
* Partnerships & External Engagement
Build and manage senior level relationships with developers, counterparties, regulators and advisors. Support partnership negotiations, heads of terms and commercial frameworks in collaboration with Commercial, Legal, Finance and Risk. Act as a senior external representative for Centrica Power in the market.
* Portfolio & Value Optimisation
Work closely with Commercial, Delivery and Operations teams to ensure continuity of value from origination through construction and operation. Support the optimisation of existing portfolio opportunities where incremental growth or value enhancement is viable.
* Leadership
Contribute to the leadership of Centrica Power and the wider Group, promoting a strong safety, governance and performance culture. Develop high performing teams and talent, embedding inclusive leadership and accountability. Provide thought leadership on market evolution, policy developments and competitive positioning.
Required qualifications
* Significant experience in the energy infrastructure industry with a proven record of early‑stage development and delivery of large‑scale projects.
* Deep knowledge of the energy sector and strong technical understanding of power generation technology across conventional, renewables and storage.
* Understanding of the electricity grid system and detailed knowledge of energy policy, regulation and standards.
* Strong experience preparing and influencing investment cases, governance papers and executive/board‑level approvals.
* Ability to identify key value drivers, sensitivities and downside risks, and ensure opportunities are robust, executable and strategically aligned.
* Highly credible with experience building relationships with developers, investors, partners, advisors, regulators and senior internal stakeholders.
* Excellent commercial negotiation skills.
* Proven people leadership capability, with experience building, leading and developing high‑performing teams.
