Hours: Monday to Friday, 0830 – 1700 (40 hours per week)
We are looking for an experienced food industry Technical Manager, to lead the food Technical function at our Barking facility that supplies prepared fruit and vegetable products (including cooked components and end products) to the hospitality industry (non-retailer).
As the Technical Manager you are responsible for ensuring food manufactured is safe, legal and of the quality required, with a focus on customer service and maintaining the bespoke, artisan and agile USP of the business.
This will involve liaising with suppliers, site colleagues and customers on all food technical related matters. Evolves food technical standards to meet SALSA standards and drive a gradual move towards BRCGS standards, by reviewing and developing the existing Quality Management System and managing your team to drive results.
Duties/Accountabilities & responsibilities include:
Safety, quality and legality of all products manufactured on site
Management of company’s Quality Management System including HACCP
Identifying and delivering on technical improvement plans
Leadership, development and support of a Quality Assurance team (currently x1 Technical Co-ordinator, 1x QA Assistant and x1 Junior QA Assistant), ensuring sufficient Technical resource across all production activities.
Lead internal and external audits (SALSA, NSF, EHO, customers).
Work with and support Hygiene Manager and Hygiene team to ensure micro schedule is maintained and out of specification results are actioned effectively.
Ensure systems are in place to meet current SALSA standard and accreditation bodies, customer and legal requirements. Evolve systems to work towards BRC standard over the next 12 – 24 months.
Refine and manage company’s Technical KPI’s with suitable targets to drive progress.
Host customer, EHO, TSO and 3rd party audits and visits as required.
Own HACCP (as HACCP Team Leader) and QMS ensuring appropriate review mechanism and suitable document control.
Ensure NPD and recipes approval process is followed accordingly for all new products to facilitate launches to tight deadlines.

To be successful in your application, we are looking for:
Higher education qualification in a food or science-based subject.
Food safety level 3 / 4.
HACCP level 3 / 4
A minimum of 4 years’ experience within a senior role within the food industry, in a high care/high risk manufacturing environment.
