The Position Job Title: Apprentice Network Engineer Apprenticeship Course: Level 4 Network Engineer Apprenticeship Duration: 15 months Assessment Location: Peterborough (Hybrid) - open to more WFH after a few weeks Working Hours: 9am – 5:30pm (On Call) Salary: £17,000 - £26,000 Role and Responsibilities: The Network Apprentice role is designed to provide structured development within our company’s network function, combining day-to-day operational exposure with hands-on technical learning. Working alongside experienced engineers, the apprentice will support network operations, service delivery, fault management, and documentation activities, while building the technical and professional skills required for a long-term career in telecommunications. This role will give the apprentice exposure to carrier-grade network technologies, operational processes, and live service environments across both access and core infrastructure. The apprentice will develop an understanding of how services are provisioned, supported, monitored, and maintained, while contributing to the wider goals of network stability, service quality, and continuous improvement. Over time, the role is expected to develop into a more technically capable support and engineering position, aligned to either a Level 4 or Level 5 apprenticeship pathway. · A genuine interest in networking, telecommunications, and technology, with a strong desire to build a career in the industry. · Willingness to learn core networking principles such as IP addressing, routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and basic network security. · Exposure to, or interest in, service provider and enterprise technologies such as fibre access, Ethernet, broadband, and IP networking. · Ability to support day-to-day operational tasks within the network team, including ticket handling, service checks, documentation updates, and basic fault triage. · Willingness to learn how to use network monitoring, ticketing, and operational support systems. · Ability to follow defined processes, work instructions, and technical standards with good attention to detail. · Strong communication skills, with the ability to ask good questions, document information clearly, and work effectively with colleagues and suppliers. · A methodical and organised approach to work, with a willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks and see them through. · An interest in developing practical skills in areas such as CLI usage, diagnostics, infrastructure support, and service provisioning. · A positive and professional attitude, with the willingness to learn from senior engineers and contribute as part of a team. · GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English, and ideally a relevant technical qualification or prior exposure to IT, networking, or engineering studies. · Suitable for a Level 4 or Level 5 apprenticeship pathway, depending on prior experience, existing qualifications, and the agreed development route.
