This is a 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) post including on-call duties and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA's). With mutual agreement, it can be extended to 12 PAs. At The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital, there is extensive elective and emergency theatre activity, providing wide experience in general anaesthesia for various surgical disciplines. Full GMC registration and possession of the FRCA (or equivalent) are required for this post.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to participate in the general on-call anaesthesia service covering both New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Assist the lead in developing regional anaesthesia services as per the agreed job plan.
2. Make decisions regarding the suitability of high-risk patients.
3. Manage regional anaesthesia services to ensure safe and timely delivery, benefiting patients and the organization.
4. Lead in developing and showcasing regional anaesthesia modules aligned with the RCoA curriculum.
5. Provide anaesthetic services according to the job plan and take ongoing responsibility for your patients.
6. Collaborate with other consultant anaesthetists to cover for annual, study, and professional leave.
7. Deputise for absent colleagues, such as during sickness leave, as practicable.
8. Ensure hospital staff involved in patient care can contact you when necessary.
9. Engage in planning and delivering developments in the Critical Care Services Directorate.
10. Develop and maintain special skills and interests relevant to the overall anaesthesia development as per job planning and appraisal (Personal Development Plan).
Person Specification
Educational Qualifications
* Essential: CCT in anaesthesia (within 6 months of interview), FRCA or equivalent, at least 6 months advanced training in Regional Anaesthesia or equivalent.
* Desirable: MRCP or equivalent, ALS certification (or equivalent).
Experience
* Essential: Comprehensive experience in anaesthesia for DGH-type surgical specialties.
* Desirable: Recent experience in anaesthesia relevant to the job plan, e.g., advanced airway management, regional blocks.
