Ensuring operational implementation of associate Trust wide policies and procedures. Northallerton School & Sixth Form College is seeking a hardworking, reliable and proactive Site Assistant to support the safe and efficient operation of our school site. As a key member of the Estates Team, you will help maintain a secure, clean and functional environment for all students, staff and visitors. You will report directly to the Site Manager and support Trust-wide estate operations where required. The Site Assistant will contribute to day-to-day duties that ensure the school site is safe, well-maintained and fully operational. This includes supporting school activities, maintaining buildings and grounds, responding to emergencies, and assisting with routine safety and compliance tasks.
Responsibilities
* Opening, unlocking and securing the site, including lettings and community use
* Performing daily site and security checks and responding to emergencies (including out of hours where needed)
* Undertaking minor repairs and first-line maintenance (e.g. painting, fixing fixtures, basic DIY tasks)
* Supporting building projects and contractor supervision
* Portering duties, such as moving furniture, setting up exam rooms and school events, and managing deliveries
* Maintaining external areas, including litter picking, grounds maintenance, and ensuring paths and entrances are free of snow/ice
* Carrying out routine compliance checks (e.g. heating systems, boiler checks, utility readings)
* Supporting statutory testing (e.g. Legionella, PAT, emergency lighting, fire alarms)
* Ensuring health and safety, safeguarding and data protection requirements are followed at all times
* Responding flexibly to operational needs across the school and Trust
This role involves working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, with the use of tools, equipment and cleaning products (appropriate PPE provided). An enhanced DBS check is essential - this is will form part of our pre-employment checks.
Qualifications
* Essential skills and experience:
o has experience is carrying out building maintenance tasks using hand and power tools
o can communicate effectively with staff, contractors and external agencies
o has good organisational, problem-solving and time management skills, with the ability to work independently
o Understands Health and Safety requirements and safe working practices, including basic compliance and risk management
o Can work flexibly and respond to occasional out-of-hours needs (e.g. emergencies, severe weather)
* Desirable (training can be provided):
o knowledge of building regulations or technical maintenance tasks
o familiarity with compliance reporting software (e.g. Every)
o a general Health and Safety qualification or trade-level training
o Have high expectations of themselves and the people they work with
