About the role:
Due to the retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for an Interim Head of Service, Housing to join our senior leadership team at Exeter City Council. This is an exciting time to join us, as we are preparing for unitary status for councils across Exeter to secure the best outcome for the city and its residents. This position is a 12-month fixed term contract, with the potential to extend by a further 2 years.
Reporting to the Strategic Director, People and Communities, this is a key role working as a member our Operational Management Board. You will deliver against our corporate ambitions and priorities by offering strategic and operational support and leadership to our Housing services. Your excellent management and leadership skills will ensure Exeter City Council continues to deliver its vital services, including excellent tenancy, housing needs and homeless support, private sector housing, and empty homes services.
About you:
You will be an experienced housing professional able to demonstrate substantial experience across the full range of housing and housing support services. You will have a track record of service transformation and have delivered digital and customer focused change programmes within housing services. You will be able to demonstrate significant experience in budgetary management within a housing context, including managing all aspects of HRA and housing needs services.
About the team:
Exeter City Council is a stock retaining local authority with the Housing Service, providing tenancy related services to just under 5000 residents in addition to over 1200 leaseholders. This role also oversees the private sector rented housing, housing needs, and homelessness teams. A key focus of the first 12 months will be maintaining excellent operational delivery while reviewing the department to identify opportunities for integration of services and teams to achieve our Digital Customer Strategy ambitions.

Hybrid Working
This role offers the flexibility of hybrid working, allowing you to split your time between working from home and our office in central Exeter. We encourage staff to be on-site for key meetings and collaborative sessions, which will make up at least 40% of your working hours.
