We are recruiting for a Freelance Sub Agent to join our £m+ civil engineering scheme in North Yorkshire. The scheme involves the design and construction of bridges, highways, retaining walls, new sections of railway, utilities networks, drainage works, and temporary car parks. The primary role is to support the Agent/Project Manager in managing the design and/or construction of the works, including implementing quality procedures and managing health, safety, and environmental matters to meet programme, specification, and budget targets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver Health, Safety, and Environmental presentations, including project inductions, toolbox talks, and team briefings.
2. Manage, supervise, and mentor graduate, site, and section engineers to ensure high levels of engineering control and project records.
3. Complete health and safety inspections and maintain individual daily diaries.
4. Implement quality control processes, including preparing and/or reviewing Inspection & Test Plans.
5. Display advanced knowledge of key packages such as concrete, drainage, steelwork, and brickwork.
6. Prepare and/or review method statements and risk assessments.
7. Understand project specifications, particularly tolerances for vertical and horizontal structural elements.
8. Control components of the Non-Conformance procedure, including creating and closing out Non-Conformances and understanding the cost of defects and remedial works.
9. Issue _Permits to break ground_.
10. Identify missing information and navigate the project RFI process.
11. Prepare and monitor 4-weekly construction programmes or provide information to the project planner for updates.
Experience & Qualifications
* Fully competent in understanding the risks and controls for underground services.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Good working knowledge of current H&S legislation, Microsoft Office, and CAD.
* Significant experience in the design management process.
* Experienced in managing temporary works, lifting operations, and quality management procedures.
* Has previously managed teams of engineers at various levels.
* SMSTS Training.
* First Aid.
* Service Avoidance Course.
* Temporary Works Coordinator Training.
* A61 CPCS Lifting Operations Appointed Persons Course.
* Working towards professional status, such as ICE or CIOB.
