Position Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is recruiting a Consultant Psychiatrist – Inpatient/Outpatient to work within the Inverclyde community. The post is a 10‑session inpatient/outpatient role, with in‑patients at Inverclyde Royal Hospital and outpatient services delivered from Crown House, Greenock.
Shift Pattern & Employment Terms
Shift pattern: 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday plus On Call Rota. The position is a full‑time post on a 10 PA basis, but applicants wishing to work less than full‑time will also be considered. Up to two EPAs may be available to undertake additional outpatient and/or procedure sessions or management activity.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage an independent inpatient and outpatient caseload alongside the consultant group.
* Allocate in‑patients on a rotational basis and participate in the well‑established local division group meetings.
* Mentor GP, foundation, and core trainees attached on rotation, supporting their career progression.
* Contribute actively to the department’s teaching programme for trainees.
* Engage in audit, clinical governance, and other quality‑improvement activities.
* Attend to core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) requirements, including CPD, appraisal, re‑validation, and job‑planning meetings.
Core Qualifications & Requirements
* Full GMC Registration, license to practise, and eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
* UK‑trained psychiatrists should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within six months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.
* Doctors on the CESR route are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once CESR is awarded.
* Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training in the UK (or the required UK-equivalent training).
Additional Professional Development
All newly qualified consultants receive a minimum of one Core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) and an additional non‑DCC PA will form part of the core job plan for professional clinical development.
