Position
We are hiring a Dietitian for the Acute & South Ayrshire HSCP Dietetic Team at University Hospital Ayr. The post is permanent and part of a Band 5 rotation.
Hours
36 hours per week (full‑time). Job share will be considered. Note: From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours for full‑time staff.
UK Driving Licence
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
What You Will Do
UHA is a district general hospital in South Ayrshire delivering services across specialties such as general medicine (cardiology, rheumatology, respiratory), urology, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, general surgery, and critical care. You will be expected to deliver health improvement interventions as appropriate, working as part of a fully integrated acute and community team. You will provide services to patients in homes, care homes, GP clinics, and community hospitals in Prestwick & Girvan. You will supervise/mentor or educate unregistered colleagues, students during practice placements and other multi‑professional team members such as paramedic learners.
Qualifications
* Honours degree/postgraduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics.
* Registered Dietitian with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Working knowledge of the HCPC Standards of proficiency for Dietitians.
* Time management, organisational, and digital competency skills.
* Quality/service improvement approach.
* Communication, presentation, team‑working, and leadership skills.
* Good interpersonal and organisational skills, including supervision potential for Assistant Practitioner/Support Worker or student colleagues.
* Car driver/owner essential.

To work in the United Kingdom, you must demonstrate relevant permission to work. NHS Ayrshire & Arran may be able to offer visa sponsorship for certain roles when the post meets minimum salary and other criteria. The advertised salary is based on a full‑time contract and will be prorated for part‑time positions. Sponsorship is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis following interview and at the commencement of pre‑employment checks. We are unable to provide sponsorship for Band 2 posts or bank contracts.
