What We Are Looking For...
Role Overview:
As the Senior People Operations and Reward Manager at River Island, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our people processes are robust, data-driven, and aligned with both business needs and industry best practices. Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO) or People Director, you will oversee the operational teams including payroll, rewards, and people data analytics. This role has direct line management responsibility for 4 direct reports who manage a further team of 7 administrators and specialists.
This is a senior, hands-on role where you will work collaboratively across the team to optimise our employee experience and drive strategic initiatives, whilst delivering a compliant and robust day-to-day service to our Islanders. You will also own stakeholder relationships with legal, tax, tech and other business functions to ensure alignment with internal business processes and external obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Payroll Management: Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate processing for all employees in compliance with UK/ROI payroll regulations and tax laws.
Monitor national minimum wage compliance.
* Reward & Benefits: Oversee annual pay review cycles and ensure role benchmarking is effective in maintaining competitive and fair pay structures.
Manage BAU benefits including Private Medical, Healthcare Assessments, Flu Jabs, eyecare vouchers, and long service awards.
* People Data Management & Analytics: Ensure the accuracy, security, and integrity of all people-related data. Provide data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
* Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure processes comply with UK/ROI legislation, including tax, pension, and employment law. Stay updated on regulatory changes and manage audits.
* Continuous Improvement & Collaboration: Drive process improvements within payroll, reward, and people data systems. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
Skills and Experience:
* Significant experience in a similar role, ideally within a large retail/hospitality organisation.
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax regulations, and benefits administration.
* Expertise in people data management and analytics; experience with Oracle EBS-HR is beneficial.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Proactive, solutions-focused, with attention to detail.
* Strategic thinker with hands-on operational expertise.
* Experience in developing reward strategies is a plus.
