What’s the opportunity? (Role)
We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join Hereworks as a Lead Commissioning Engineer. This is a senior, site-focused role responsible for ensuring the successful commissioning and quality assurance of smart building systems, including AV, IEQ, occupancy sensing, and associated gateways. The Lead Commissioning Engineer acts as the final technical authority on-site, ensuring that all systems meet Hereworks standards before handover. The role involves working closely with Project Managers and liaising with all applicable specialists, including the AV Platform Specialist and BMS Platform Specialist. It supports project readiness, mentors commissioning engineers, and takes ownership of commissioning documentation and issue reporting. What will you be doing? (Responsibilities)
* Lead on-site commissioning activities across multiple concurrent projects, acting as the final technical checkpoint to ensure systems function correctly and meet Hereworks quality standards
* Liaise with Project Managers to confirm site readiness, including verification of rack builds, power, and network infrastructure
* Take ownership of all commissioning-related documentation, including commissioning checklists, QA forms, and issue trackers, ensuring consistent use and accurate completion across all sites
* Work closely with the AV Platform Specialist and BMS Platform Specialist to ensure software and configuration packages are ready for deployment and commissioning
* Provide on-the-job mentoring to commissioning engineers, promoting high standards of quality, safety, and professionalism
* Participate in client-facing activities such as system demonstrations, snag list reviews, and handover walk-throughs, supporting a smooth and professional close-out process
* Review and validate subcontractor installations to ensure they meet Hereworks commissioning and quality standards
* Support innovation efforts by participating in the testing and evaluation of new hardware relevant to commissioning workflows
* Actively contribute to continuous improvement by feeding back observations and documentation updates to the Principal Hardware Engineer
* Occasionally attend head office meetings and be available for international travel if required to support project delivery
Key Interfaces
* Project Managers: Coordinate site access, schedule timelines, and ensure the site is ready for commissioning
* AV Platform Specialist: Ensure software packages are ready and support technical issue resolution
* BMS Platform Specialist: Provide support and coordination on smart building systems during commissioning
* Commissioning Engineers: Receive technical guidance and on-the-job mentoring from the Lead Commissioning Engineer
* Principal Hardware Engineer: Acts as the line manager, defines commissioning documentation frameworks, and receives feedback on workflow improvements, technical issues, and R&D insights gathered on-site
* Clients: Engaged directly during demonstrations, snag reviews, and formal handover processes
What do you need? (Requirements)
* Proven experience in commissioning AV and smart building systems, with strong hands-on skills in hardware validation, troubleshooting, and system testing
* Deep understanding of technologies such as AV systems, IEQ devices, occupancy sensors, gateways, and IP-based infrastructure
* Strong quality assurance mindset with a consistent and disciplined approach to documentation and checklist completion
* Comfortable engaging with clients in a professional and technical capacity during demonstrations, handovers, and snag list reviews
* Ability to work across multiple live projects, managing priorities effectively in a fast-paced, field-based environment
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills to liaise confidently with Project Managers and technical specialists
* A proactive approach to mentoring, supporting, and enabling other commissioning engineers
* Willingness to contribute to R&D efforts and provide feedback that supports technical improvement and innovation
* Flexibility to travel throughout Ireland, with occasional international travel as required
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with a calm and professional attitude under pressure
Desired but not Essential
* Experience working in structured commissioning environments or with ISO-aligned QA processes
* Familiarity with Niagara 4 and BMS system integration (training can be provided)
* Exposure to structured AV and network troubleshooting tools such as test generators, protocol analysers, and wire mapping tools
* AV industry certifications such as AVIXA CTS or manufacturer-specific training (e.g. Crestron, Q-SYS, Extron)
* Experience reviewing and validating subcontractor work against internal QA standards
* Knowledge of control systems, AV-over-IP protocols, or smart building middleware platforms
