Sewing Machine Mechanic
Contract:
34 hours per week, 1-year fixed-term contract (funded by the Lottery Strengthening Organisations Grant Award)
Location:
3 McBride Ave, Kirkintilloch, Glasgow (there may also be occasions where you will perform training workshops at a client's location within the UK)
Salary:
£12.50 per hour (6-month probationary period)

We are entering an exciting phase of development, including the design and delivery of a new Sewing Machine Mechanics qualification, and we are seeking an experienced and passionate professional to help make this happen.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Sewing Machine Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a wide range of industrial and domestic sewing machines, ensuring they are in safe and efficient working order for use in our classes, workshops, and community programmes.
This role also includes contributing to the design and development of a new Sewing Machine Mechanics qualification in collaboration with our tutors and programme coordinator.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· You will be instrumental in the creation of training materials and assessments for the new sewing machine mechanics qualification
· Design and deliver sewing machine mechanic training workshops
· Train programme participants on correct machine use and basic maintenance
· Perform routine maintenance and repairs on a range of industrial and domestic sewing machines
· Troubleshoot and diagnose issues, ensuring machines are safe and operational
· Order and fit replacement parts as needed
· Keep detailed records of all machine maintenance and repairs
· Support sewing tutors in setting up and maintaining machines for classes and workshops
· Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to programme development
Requirements
· Proven experience as a sewing machine mechanic, ideally in an industrial setting
· Strong knowledge of sewing machine parts, functions, and safety procedures
· Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose machine issues quickly and effectively
· Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills
· Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
· Flexible schedule and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
Working Hours & Pay
· hours per week (rota to be confirmed at interview and subject to change depending on workload/orders)
· You will be given at least 4 weeks' notice of your rota
· On occasions when attending Stitch the Gap events, travel expenses and hourly rate will be applied for your time (event shifts may range from 2–6 hours and require some flexibility)
