Purpose of the role
* The Project Engineer organises the planning, implementation, and control of investment projects in the plant, coordinating the plant's project managers.
* They will be responsible for managing the initiation and implementation of major CapEx projects assigned by the Plant Manager in agreement with the Head of Project Management and Engineering.
* The role entails comprehensive ownership of project initiation, implementation, and oversight, ensuring exceptional standards in line with company guidelines and design criteria.
* They work collaboratively with the Plant team, assessing project viability, managing risks, and leveraging technology to innovate and optimise plant processes.
Key Accountabilities
* Health and Safety: ensure projects adhere to the highest health and safety targets in line with the company Health and Safety Plan and conduct necessary audits and interviews.
* Environmental and sustainability: ensure all environmental impacts are considered, discussed and mitigated through an effective environmental management plan and liaise with the land and planning department to meet regulatory requirements.
* Project Budget Management: assess and identify projects within the Cement Operation & Technical to be included in the three‑year budget, assist the Plant Manager in preparing the annual investment budget, and monitor and report on current and upcoming budgets to the Plant Manager and Head of Project Management and Engineering.
* CapEx AFEs: evaluate and review CapEx AFEs with project teams, plant management and other group functions to deliver Best Value Design and obtain necessary approvals.
* Stakeholder management: engage all affected stakeholders, including central functions and business line management, through a stakeholder management plan, providing regular updates to ensure ongoing engagement.
* Project Performance: ensure plant projects are clearly defined and set up in line with company guidance, report regularly to the project steering committee, meet project organisation, budgets, timelines and targets, coordinate between departments, and conduct post‑project reviews.
* Ensure all statutory legislation and company regulations are adhered to regarding current and proposed activities.
* Ensure the availability of technical documentation and manuals for maintenance, repair, and original and executive technical drawings for each project.
* Warranty period: monitor and control the proper functioning of installed equipment during the warranty period.
Education and Qualification
* Ideally educated to a degree level in Engineering.
* Ideally hold (or are working towards) a project management qualification.
* Hold a NEROSH or other equivalent H&S qualification.
