About Us:
Balfour Beatty Living Places is delivering the City Council’s Bus Stop Improvement Plan (BSIP) — a programme to modernise bus infrastructure across the city. We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to lead design delivery, ensuring successful, innovative, and safe outcomes.
What you'll be doing
As Senior Design Manager, you will drive design excellence and ensure high standards in:
* Safety by Design
* Programme and budget adherence
* BIM Level 2 compliance
* Stakeholder collaboration and client satisfaction
You will lead a multidisciplinary team, review proposals, and incorporate cutting-edge techniques into our delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the design programme, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery
* Develop BIM Execution Plans, EIRs, and Information Management Plans
* Engage with Portsmouth City Council and stakeholders to build relationships
* Review design outputs for compliance, fitness for purpose, and risk minimisation
* Monitor and report on financials, quality, and KPIs
* Support transition from design to construction with delivery teams
Who we're looking for
Strong highways design background with experience managing infrastructure projects. Confident with clients, a natural leader, and committed to high standards.
Essential:
* Knowledge of highways design and CDM 2015 regulations
* Knowledge of BIM (Level 2) and digital delivery
* Stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
* Strong communication skills
* Full UK driving license
Desirable:
* Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng MICE or equivalent)
* Experience with Local Authorities
* Knowledge of Highways, drainage, and earthworks
