Mechanical Engineer (Vacuum & Mechatronics Focus)
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to design and develop precision mechanical systems, with an emphasis on vacuum-compatible hardware and integrated mechatronic solutions. This role combines advanced CAD design, vacuum system engineering, and mechatronics integration for Materials Science and Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
* Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings for mechanical components and systems using tools such as Fusion 360 Design and specify vacuum systems, including chambers, pumping lines, seals, flanges, valves, and ultra-high vacuum (UHV)-compatible components.
* Design systems and procedures to work with hazardous materials and maintain a clean and safe environment.
* Select and integrate vacuum-compatible materials, finishes, and hardware to achieve required vacuum levels and cleanliness.
* Develop mechatronic subsystems involving precision motion, actuators, sensors, drives, and control integration.
* Perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and basic structural/thermal analysis to ensure design robustness.
* Support prototyping, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of vacuum and mechatronic hardware where not commercially available.
* Collaborate with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams to deliver fully integrated solutions.
* Liaise with industrial suppliers regarding vacuum/pressure systems.
Qualifications & Skills
* MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
* 1‑3+ years of relevant experience designing and analysing mechanical components and assemblies, with proficiency in CAD and understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, materials selection, and tolerance analysis.
* Understanding and experience in precision engineering, materials science, and manufacturability.
* Demonstrated ability to work with and manage external suppliers, and multidisciplinary technical teams in fast‑paced, dynamic settings.
* Experience designing for high‑vacuum, ultra‑clean, or controlled environments for Materials Science and Engineering.
* Hands‑on mindset with prototyping and testing experience.
* Familiarity with motion control systems, robotics, or automated equipment.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and in a small team.
