About us
Reed is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of Fox’s Burton’s Companies (FBC UK)!
FBC UK bakes the UK's most incredible biscuits (we might be slightly biased, but we will leave that for you to judge). FBC UK was formed through the merger of two of the top UK biscuit manufacturers, Burton's Biscuits and Fox's Biscuits, creating a unique, integrated company. FBC UK is home to iconic brands such as Maryland, Fox's, Jammie Dodgers, and Rocky, and is a proud manufacturing partner to some of the biggest UK retailers and household names.
The key ingredient to FBC UK’s success is its people and their passion for the brands. You could be the jammy to our dodger, party ring to our Fox’s, or the choc-chip to our Maryland! We seek individuals with innovative ideas, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to driving FBC UK towards success. Currently, FBC UK is the second-largest biscuit manufacturer in the UK market, with ambitions to become the market leader.
The role
This role involves the initial stage of biscuit production, which is crucial. It requires a physical, team-oriented environment with clear communication. The role demands common sense, the ability to work independently, and following established processes. You will start with a rota sheet that allocates you to a specific line or plant. Your responsibilities include checking the recipe sheet and ensuring that the mixing machine is set correctly, including weight and ingredient proportions.
Key accountabilities
• Mixer – Operating from a menu/recipe sheet to set up the mixer appropriately. Performing quality control checks on the consistency and color of the mix. Managing 'Add Ons' such as chemical ingredients, which are added manually by the mixer. These chemicals are prepared separately by the Chemical Maker and brought to the mixer.
• Chemical Mixer – Handling various chemical ingredients according to instructions, preparing the mix, and bringing it to the mixer. This manual role involves following guidelines, using shovels to insert the mix, and weighing ingredients to ensure correct portions.
• Servicer – Transporting bulk ingredients from the warehouse to the mixing and storage areas. This involves using FL equipment and pallet trucks. The role is very physical and requires checking stock requirements.
Skills & experience
• Applicants must be aged 18 or over.
• Ability to demonstrate full right to work within the UK (student applicants must be able to demonstrate this, as paid induction requires full 40 hours of training).
• Numerate and literate (both written and oral communication skills), with the ability to work in a fast-paced, people-focused environment, either in a team or individually.
• Understanding and comfort working within a food manufacturing environment where hygiene principles are critically important. (Training will be provided.)
