Job Description
The Goods Out Operative & Driver is responsible for the efficient preparation, handling and despatch of automotive goods and components to customers and internal departments. This role combines warehouse and driving duties, ensuring that products are packed, loaded, and delivered safely, accurately and on time. The postholder works within a fast-paced manufacturing environment and must adhere to health and safety standards whilst maintaining operational efficiency.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and pick goods accurately in accordance with despatch documentation and customer requirements.
Inspect goods for quality and completeness before despatch.
Pack and label goods securely to prevent damage during transit.
Load vehicles safely, ensuring correct weight distribution and securing loads in compliance with legal and company standards.
Drive company vehicles to deliver goods to customers and suppliers across assigned routes within the United Kingdom and Northern Europe.
Complete delivery paperwork, including delivery notes and electronic proof of delivery systems.
Maintain vehicle cleanliness and basic maintenance checks, reporting any defects promptly.
Operate warehouse equipment including pallet trucks and forklifts where required, following safe operating procedures.
Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure timely despatch schedules.
Adhere to all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Report any discrepancies, damages or delays to the appropriate department immediately.
Required Qualifications
Valid full driving licence suitable for operating company vehicles.
Proven ability to drive safely and responsibly across different routes and conditions.
Basic numeracy and literacy skills to complete documentation accurately.
Education
Minimum of GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including English and Mathematics.
Experience
Previous experience working in a warehouse or goods out environment.
Experience in driving delivery vehicles within the automotive or manufacturing sectors is preferred.
Familiarity with goods handling and vehicle loading practises.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations relating to warehouse and driving operations.
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in order fulfilment and documentation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills to liaise with colleagues and customers.
Physical fitness and stamina to manage manual handling duties and extended periods of driving.
Basic IT skills for electronic record keeping and communications.
Preferred Qualifications
Forklift truck licence or certification.
Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) where applicable.
Previous experience working in the automotive industry.
Working Conditions
The role involves working in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels.
Manual handling of goods and materials is required, including lifting and moving items safely.
Driving duties involve spending extended periods on the road, including occasional overnight stays.
Working hours are full-time and may include early starts or late finishes depending on delivery schedules.
