Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers a full‑time Senior Clinical Fellow position in Nutrition and Intestinal Failure. The post is a training role within a large Integrated Intestinal Failure centre serving a wide area of Southern England.
The Trust is recruiting for two posts: a 6‑month fixed term starting ASAP and a 12‑month fixed term starting September.
Main Responsibilities
* Key member of the multidisciplinary team, caring for patients requiring intravenous nutrition and hydration support, including Type 2 and 3 Intestinal Failure.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient management of patients requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
* Involvement in complex tertiary gastroenterology and, as per interest, neuro‑gastroenterology or endoscopy.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential Criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* Completion of core medical training.
* MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
* Gastroenterology/Medical registrar level experience.
* At least four years of medical experience since qualification.
* Experience in Gastroenterology and General Medicine with exposure to other medical specialties.
* ALS certificate.
* At least 6 months attached to a Gastroenterology team.
Desirable Criteria
* ST5 level or above in gastroenterology training.
* Experience of working in Nutrition and Intestinal Failure and transplant.
* Evidence of interest in clinical nutrition and intestinal failure.
* Training courses and professional meetings attended.
Aptitudes and Skills
* Effective teamwork within multi‑professional teams.
* Understanding of equality and diversity and its impact on patients, visitors and staff.
* Excellent communication and liaison skills (verbal and written).
Proficient in the English language.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
* Calm, compassionate and able to respond efficiently to rapidly changing circumstances.
* Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Understanding of audit processes.
* Keyboard skills.
* Interest in gastroenterology.

Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills and is linked to a nodal pay point as per the National Medical and Dental pay circular.

Appointment and Local Contractual Terms
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust‑appointed (non‑training fellow doctors and dentists).

Additional Information
Basic salary plus any additional remuneration for hours set out in the doctors' work schedule, including weekend allowance and enhanced pay.
Eligibility Criteria for Nodal Point 5
* Minimum of 6 years of specialty training.
* Relevant higher specialty exam (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS).
* A portfolio of evidence demonstrating progression in line with the curriculum for the specialty similar to deanery trainee.
