Staff Nurse – Pre-Assessment – Ramsay Health Care UK
The Cherwell Hospital is currently looking to recruit an exceptional Pre-Assessment Nurse to provide specialist nursing expertise, facilitating evidence-based patient-centered care and assessment for a defined caseload of pre-assessment patients.
Overview
Role: Pre-operative/Pre-assessment nursing within the Outpatient department, delivering high-quality nursing care and coordinating patients through their pre-assessment pathway prior to specified procedures. You will work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to support patient care and ensure informed consent and effective communication with patients and carers.
Responsibilities
* Work independently and with a team of nurses and healthcare assistants to coordinate patients through the pre-assessment pathway and manage care prior to admission for procedures.
* Act as a resource and provide education for patients and healthcare personnel; direct the pre-assessment nursing team.
* Carry out appropriate care without direct supervision; work effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
* Support all staff within the Outpatient department, including nursing students and visiting healthcare professionals.
* Teach and mentor students and junior staff; contribute to improvements in care provision and raise concerns about poor practice where appropriate.
* Ensure the nursing philosophy of care for pre-operative assessment is reflected in practice; provide a high standard of nursing care within agreed policies and procedures.
* Act as a liaison with the multidisciplinary team and contribute to Anesthetic/MDT meetings; escalate complex patient needs and help plan their care.
* Collaborate with the health care team and patient to communicate sensitive, complex information; provide guidance and support regarding admission and its impact on patients and carers.
* Identify and overcome barriers to patient understanding when communicating complex or distressing information; provide verbal and written information to enable informed consent.
* Establish partnerships with patients and carers; communicate in emotionally challenging circumstances; uphold patient advocacy, consent, privacy and dignity (NMC).
* Promote health within the role using information leaflets and networking with specialist staff across the Trust.
* Reflect on own performance through supervision and learning activities.
What You’ll Bring With You
* Current NMC registration
* Minimum 6 months paid experience in a Pre-op assessment nurse role in an NHS/private hospital within the past 3 years
* Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
* Flexible and positive attitude; warm, considerate and empathetic character

The Cherwell Hospital, Banbury, Oxford Road, Banbury OX16 9FG. The Outpatients department at The Cherwell Hospital provides orthopaedic care with onsite imaging and physiotherapy facilities.
