About the Role:
The Junior Scientist role provides practical laboratory support to Oz-UK's scientific teams. Working under the supervision of Scientists and Senior Scientists, the role holder will assist with laboratory preparation, basic experimental work, and data recording while developing core laboratory skills.
This role is ideal for a motivated school leaver or career changer with strong A-level results (or equivalent) in science subjects who is keen to develop their skills and experience in applied pharmaceutical research.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Support
* Assist with preparation of materials, solutions and equipment for experiments
* Support routine laboratory tasks under supervision
* Help maintain clean, organised and safe laboratory spaces
* Follow laboratory instructions and procedures accurately
Data & Documentation
* Record experimental observations clearly and accurately
* Assist with basic data entry and organisation of results
* Learn to maintain laboratory notebooks and records to required standards
Quality & Safety
* Follow laboratory safety procedures at all times
* Complete required safety and training modules
* Report any issues, spills or concerns immediately
Learning & Development
* Participate in structured training and on-the-job learning
* Develop understanding of laboratory techniques and equipment
* Build knowledge of pharmaceutical research and inhalation science over time
About You:
We are looking for a local, enthusiastic and reliable individual who is keen to learn and develop in a scientific environment.
Essential requirements:
* A-levels (or equivalent) in Chemistry and/or another science subject (Biology, Physics)
* Good attention to detail and willingness to follow procedures
* Strong work ethic and positive attitude
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work well as part of a team
Desirable:
* Interest in science, healthcare or pharmaceuticals
* Previous laboratory exposure (e.g. school, college or work experience)
* IT literacy and basic data handling skills
Oz-UK will provide:
* Training on laboratory procedures, safety and equipment
* On-the-job mentoring from experienced Scientists
* A clear progression pathway to Scientist roles as skills and experience develop
* Support for further education or qualifications where appropriate
