Job summary
We're looking for a new substantive consultant to join our Rheumatology departments at the Mile End Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital sites, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. The post is 10 PAs, with 8 PAs at Mile End Hospital and 2 PAs at Whipps Cross Hospital. This follows the partial retirement of one of our team. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding Rheumatology network composed of 17 Consultant Rheumatologists across Barts Health. The successful applicant will provide general outpatient adult rheumatology care without out-of-hours on-call commitments and will have the opportunity to develop a sub-specialty interest. Engagement with existing research programs and clinical trials across Barts Health is expected.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will collaborate with other consultants to deliver comprehensive rheumatology services. Responsibilities include:
1. Participating fully in the care of Rheumatology patients, working with multidisciplinary teams, and liaising with general practices for managing chronic conditions.
2. Conducting approximately 5 clinics per week, managing a mix of new and follow-up patients, in line with RCP guidelines.
3. Managing patients admitted under their care, including liaising with specialists and supervising junior staff, contributing to their training and assessment.
4. Teaching medical students and postgraduate trainees.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
* MRCP or equivalent
* CCST (or within 6 months of interview) or on the specialist register
* GMC registration
Desirable: Evidence of participation in research.
Knowledge (Essential):
* Ability to independently manage clinical care of patients
* Expert clinical opinion on elective and emergency problems within the specialty
Desirable: Experience with Axial Spondyloarthropathy or metabolic bone disease.
Training (Expected, Essential):
* Higher Specialist Training in Rheumatology
* Experience in supervising doctors and teaching clinical skills
* Audit experience
Desirable: Experience in audit management and teaching clinical skills to undergraduates.
Personal Skills (Essential):
* Presentation and communication skills
* Teaching abilities for undergraduates and postgraduates
Desirable: Flexible approach and team working evidence.
