Salary Range: £1,413 - £5,652 per annum, plus additional incident call out payments
Hours per week: Minimum of 31 on-call hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent
The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
They are trained and experienced individuals on the front line, saving lives and protecting community assets. On-call firefighters come from all backgrounds and are committed to serving their community, often balancing this role with other employment or studies.
This role is demanding but rewarding, offering the chance to make a real difference. They work closely with team members and participate in community events. Their responsibilities include responding to fires, floods, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience: No prior experience is necessary as comprehensive training is provided. Key qualities include enthusiasm, physical fitness, and the ability to reach the fire station quickly after being alerted. Physical fitness is essential due to the demanding nature of the role.
Eligibility: Applicants must live or work within 5 minutes of the fire station; otherwise, applications will be rejected.
