About the Role:
We are recruiting a dedicated and experienced Senior Childrens Residential Support Worker to join a brand-new childrens residential Learning Disabilities (LD) service in Wolverhampton. This is a key leadership role within the home, supporting the management team while delivering high-quality, person-centred care to children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and associated complex needs.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will lead day shifts, act as a positive role model for the staff team and help create a safe, structured and nurturing environment that promotes independence, communication, emotional wellbeing and positive outcomes for children and young people.
Pay & Hours:
* £13.00 £15.00 per hour
* Day shifts only
* Flexible rota covering early and late day shifts
* Temp-to-perm opportunity within a new service
Key Responsibilities:
* Providing direct care and support to children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs
* Leading day shifts and acting as the senior on duty
* Supporting, mentoring and guiding Residential Support Workers to maintain high standards of care
* Assisting with care plans, risk assessments and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans
* Promoting safeguarding, person-centred and trauma-informed practice
* Supporting individuals who may display behaviours that challenge, using positive and proactive approaches
* Supporting communication needs, emotional regulation and daily living skills
* Supporting daily routines, education, appointments and meaningful activities
* Transporting children and young people to education, appointments and activities when required
* Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reports, reviews and handovers
* Working closely with the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager to support the smooth running of the home
Requirements:
* Experience working with children or young people in a residential or related setting (desirable)
* Transferable experience from SEN, education, care, youth work or support roles will be considered
* Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism or complex needs
* Ability to work day shifts only
* Strong communication skills with a calm, patient and child-focused approach
* Confidence to lead shifts and support less experienced staff
* Willingness to commit to a temp-to-perm role within a brand-new service
* Good understanding of safeguarding and childrens residential regulations
* Resilient, reliable and motivated to support vulnerable children and young people
Additional / Preferred:
* Full UK driving licence (preferred)
* Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
* Previous experience as a Senior Support Worker or in an acting senior role
* Knowledge of autism, sensory needs, communication strategies and Positive Behaviour Support
* Experience working within LD or specialist residential services
