JOB SUMMARY:
Work at the intersection of hands-on product development and project delivery within a fast-paced medical device environment. Responsible for designing, prototyping, and improving mechanical components and assemblies to enable and improve production output and simplicity, while managing small-scale projects from concept through to implementation. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with medical standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Design and develop innovative mechanical components and systems for new and existing medical devices, using SolidWorks
* Utilising in house 3D printing, rapidly prototype and test concepts, iterating based on performance and user feedback
* Support verification and validation activities to ensure products meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements
* Manage smaller R&D projects or workstreams, including planning, resource coordination, and timeline tracking
* Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure design-for-manufacture (DFM) and procurement alignment
* Maintain accurate design documentation including 3D models, 2D drawings and drawing register.
* Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts for product issues or manufacturing challenges
* Collaborate with maintenance, production and quality teams to ensure integrated system performance
* Contribute to the development of test rigs, jigs, and other equipment for R&D and production support
* Stay informed of materials, processes, and technologies relevant to the medical device sector
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
* Level 5 in appropriate Engineering / Design.
* Minimum 1 year experience Engineering Design.
* Knowledge/Skills in CAD modelling, Solidworks or similar.
* Problem solving, desire to improve through change.
* Flexibility.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
* Level 6 in appropriate Engineering / Design.
* Experience in Pharma or Medical Device.
* Knowledge/Skills in Cleanroom Facilities and associated equipment.
LOCATION & WORKING PATTERN:
Keele office, standard working hours (e.g. Mon-Fri, 9.00 - 5.00, 35hpw) with flexibility.
